Canon Waterproof Camera Case WP-DC310L 5191B001

Ever since I went canoeing once and dunked a brand new $900 camera I've looked for a decent but affordable underwater case. Your choices are pretty much glorified plastic bags that make you mush the buttons and controls, or heavy duty cases meant for scuba work.

The Elph 100 isn't an expensive camera, and it's pretty good for a compact. Still, you want to protect it from the elements in case of rain, snow, on the beach or swimming.

So for this camera you can get a plastic bag for about $25, or the WP-DC39 scuba case for about $190, which is rated to 130 feet. These Canon scuba cases work very well, I have one for my old A540, it has a decent feel for the controls and is easy to use, just open it up, drop the camera in, and close it. The scuba cases are also overkill for almost anything normal people do.

We used this housing on a recent trip to the caribean - My husband was skeptical and put the empty housing in the pool to test it- no leaks

we used it several times for several hours in the water and on the beach - where the housing prevented sand from getting in the zoom lense. Pictures were great and housing was a hit with fellow travelers

I WISH we were one of those families that goes on great scuba diving expeditions to exotic places, but there are nine of us and the best we ever get is swimming pools in hotels and the local lake.

We bought the Canon WP-DC310L Case along with the Elph 100 HS for our son for Christmas. I will admit, I was a little sceptical, but he has had the best time taking "underwater" pictures of his brothers and sisters in hotel swimming pools.

The case fits the camera perfectly. He has no trouble getting it on and off. It protects just as promised. All of the buttons for the camera line up with the case. AND most importantly, the case does not detract from the quality of the pictures. I cannot wait until summer returns to North Dakota and we can try it out in the lake.

For now, I highly recommend the camera and the case. We will be going on vacation to Las Vegas and Santa Monica in March. I will definitely come back and update its abilities in more pools... Read more
